It all began when Alexander emigrated to the United States. Not knowing the language and being thrown in straight into high school, he had to adapt fast. One thing became very apparent to him right away. The United States is different; everything is new, and every day is a lesson. Out of pure curiosity, Alexander started recording and counting first-time experiences on his phone on a simple notepad app. He didn’t discriminate on what makes it in the list, and in just a few months, the list grew into over 100 entries.
As time passed, life got busier, and the phone was lost; recording first-time experiences took a backseat, but the quote: “There is Always a First Time for Everything” became Alexander’s motto. He lived by constantly trying new things and never saying no to new adventures. Throughout college and life challenges, he always tried to see the best in new experiences. He always kept his list in the back of his mind. But it all changed when his son was born. He realized that there was something new for that little guy every day. So he got the idea to take his motto and try to share it with the world, exposing the beauty of cherishing first-time experiences.
Alexander created the first journal prototype and shared it with friends and family. The idea of recording first-time experiences sparked a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity. Everyone had different opinions, but one theme stands out: positive reinforcement. Writing down your everyday first-time experiences shines a spotlight on them, making an ordinary moment extraordinary. Something that you can come back to and relive. Alexander noticed that even if it’s a negative event, putting it in writing and appreciating it is just part of growing as a person, and it helps turn that negative into a positive.
“There is Always a First Time for Everything,” says Alexander. “I always tell people who want to use my journal to try to write down every single first. Even if it’s chewing a new gum flavor, it makes you realize that you have lived on this planet all these years, and it took you this whole time to finally try strawberry gum. Doesn’t it make that gum so much more special? Ultimately, what matters isn’t the action itself, but recognizing its uniqueness and value for your personal growth, no matter how big or small.”
Creating each journal in the series “Boof of Firsts.” Alexander pays special attention to how people work. He tries to tailor journals to different personality types, ages, and lifestyles. Each journal is unique; some have many prompts and leading questions, and some have none. Some are structured, and some have no structure at all. Some have stories of other people’s accomplishments, and some give you space to write your own story. Each journal is designed to record an event and help readers recognize its significance, capture emotions, and extract essential lessons from new experiences.
The goal is to create a series of journals centered around capturing first-time experiences. The journals will allow readers to appreciate everyday life and challenge their curiosity about what else they can discover. It is to help readers grow into the best, positive, and most self-aware people.
